Nature and Culture in Terrasini
Terrasini
can boast an high level naturalistic estate: the coast,
perhaps the most beautiful of all Sicily, is still unknown
to the mass and presents an unique feature thanks to
the colors changing from white to burned red, that gain
unique shades on changing the sunlight: shining and
luminous in the morning, rich of light and shade and
shadowy during the hot and flushed sicilian sunset.
This aquarelle gets a greater quality if you look the
background of a changing color sea, from emerald to
cobalt blue.
The coast of Terrasini is extended from a beach (the
Ciucca) till another one, San Cataldo. Our coast alternates
enchanting rock bays and high and steep crags on sea.
Moreover is “controlled” by ancient and
majestic sighting towers, that was used to warm the
people of pirates or terrible Saracens attacks
The
sighting system, really clever, provides a tower in
every strategic point of the landscape, always keeping
the towers visual communication, so as to pass on the
signal light in the whole territory, in an emergency.
Let’s talk again about the nature; after the coast
we need to cite the landscape behind, that has an unique
flora and fauna example: The Natural Oriented Reserve
of Capo Rama Biotope, managed by the WWF that established
a charming oasis in a place rightly defined “inestimable
biotope”.
About
fauna, the area hosts the typical rocky coast fauna.
It’s worth noting various kind of reptiles, seagulls
(Larus Argentatus), swifts (Apus Apus), crested larks
(Galerida Cristata) and kestrels (Flaco tinnunculus).
The grottos host some bats colonies, but there are also
foxes (Vulpes Vulpes) and rabbits (Oryctolagus Cuniculus).
About flora, we can say there is a shrubby and discontinuous
vegetation, with a reef area and a plateau one in which
there are many dwarf palms, distinguishing mark of the
reserve.
The Reserve is 2 km far from the city centre towards
west, free admittance. Group guided tour needs the booking
(phone 0039 091 8685187).
